Riverdale School was established in 1965. The school is situated near the south western boundary of Palmerston North, approximately 3km from the city centre. Surrounded by residential housing, the school has four safe and easy accesses. We have 13 attractive classrooms, a Special Education unit for severe and multiple disability pupils, a multiple purpose teaching space and a hall. The local community is encouraged where ever possible to use the facilities of the school. The grounds are used by sports clubs for training and the hall by sporting and cultural as well as private functions. The swimming pool is in constant use by the local community throughout the summer months.
- A modern school set in attractively developed grounds that are well resourced with sports and playground equipment.

- A talented, experienced and enthusiastic staff who recognise their responsibilities to children.
- A large range of modern equipment including networked computers and attractive modernised classrooms.
- Preparation for the future of children through stimulating learning programmes and many extra curricular activities.

- We offer regular ESOL lessons for students in need. We have pupils from a number of different nationalities.
- A school where there is an expectation for pupils to strive for excellence.

Dear Riverdale School
Our son Jon Fortes was a pupil at Riverdale School. We have moved to Red Beach in Auckland. Representatives from Red Beach have recently visited the Ministry of Education to demonstrate their on-line learning tool. As a parent I have really been enjoying the benefits of knowledgenet (a company on the Hibiscus Coast in Auckland). This year I have seen samples of Jon’s literature and numeracy. It provides a forum for Jon, his teacher, his peers and parents to give feedback. We have also received his school report electronically this year. This is a great resource, particularly for split families, where communicating the information becomes difficult. I know Riverdale School is very strong in keeping up with current issues and I thought you would be keen to be involved in such innovative learning techniques.
I have no idea what it is like from the school’s perspective.
